What Is the Stray Vacancy Round?

The Stray Vacancy Round is the last stage of MCC’s four-round online UG counselling process, after Rounds 1, 2 and 3. It is meant to fill the seats that remain vacant after the earlier rounds.

MCC counselling covers 15% All India Quota (AIQ) MBBS/BDS seats, seats in deemed and central universities, AIIMS and JIPMER, and some B.Sc Nursing seats. Eligibility and quota rules can differ by course and institution.

MCC’s 2026 Clear Vacancy Matrix lists seats by college, course, quota and category. Check the college and category you are interested in, instead of relying only on the total vacancy count. The matrix is available on MCC’s Current Events UG page, and it does not reopen choice filling.

Who Is Eligible?

According to MCC’s 2026 Information Bulletin, you must have registered for the Stray Vacancy Round. You are not eligible if you already hold or have joined a seat, or if you were allotted a seat in MCC Round 3 and did not report.

MCC shares allotment data with state counselling authorities. If you have a state allotment, check your current status and the applicable rules instead of assuming you are still eligible. The bulletin also says that a Round 3 seat, once joined, cannot be resigned.

What to Do After the Result

Once the result is published:

  • Log in to the MCC portal and verify the allotted college, course, quota and category.

  • Download the allotment letter and read its instructions carefully.

  • Contact the college quickly to confirm fees, reporting hours and any college-specific requirements.

  • Complete reporting within the notified window. If you wait until 26 October, you may be left with little time to fix any problem.

Carry your original documents and verified photocopies. The commonly required papers are:

  • MCC allotment letter

  • NEET admit card and rank letter/result

  • Class 10 and Class 12 certificates and marksheets

  • Valid photo ID

  • Eight passport-size photographs

Also keep your SC/ST, OBC-NCL, EWS or PwBD certificates ready, if they apply to you. NRI/OCI and foreign candidates may need extra documents. Follow the allotment letter and the college’s checklist.

Reporting Deadline Is Important

MCC’s bulletin warns that your security deposit may be forfeited if you are allotted a seat in Round 2 or a later round and do not join. College admission formalities can take two to three days, and an extension of the reporting deadline is not guaranteed. So contact the college as soon as you receive your allotment.

For updates, use MCC’s official Current Events UG page. Do not get confused by the notice titled “Notice for Provisional Result of Stray Vacancy Round UG”. It links to a PDF dated 27 September 2023, which is not a 2026 result. As of 18 October, the result is only scheduled for 19 October. It has not been declared.s
