About the course:

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing often known as B.Sc. Nursing is an undergraduate course designed for students who want to become trained nurses. The duration of this program is 4 years followed by 6 months mandatory internship. Students who want to serve society as nurses, midwives, and assistants should pursue this course as it also offers a wide range of job opportunities. Currently, in India, there are 1.7 nurses per 1000 persons which falls short of 3 nurses per 1000 persons mandated by WHO. That is why India needs to add 4.3 million nurses by 2024.

After completing this course, a fresher can expect a salary of INR 3, 00,000 per annum. This salary increases with time as the individual gains experience in this field. Individuals can also get a salary of INR 10, 00,000 per annum after gaining nursing experience of 4-5 years.

B.Sc. Nursing course is offered by various colleges/institutes in India. Some of the top colleges are AIIMS (New Delhi), King George’s Medical University (Lucknow), BHU Varanasi, Madras Medical College (Chennai) etc.

The duration of B.Sc. Nursing:

The duration of this program is 4 years with 6 months of compulsory internship. The 4 years are then divided into 8 semesters. These 4 years include theoretical classes, practical training etc during the program. This course is available in full-time, part-time and distance education modes.

The eligibility criteria for B.Sc. Nursing:

Students who wish to build their careers in the healthcare sector should go for this course. But before going for this course, a student should first check the eligibility criteria of the course as failing to fulfil the criteria, the student will not get admission in the program. The eligibility criteria vary from college to college. The general eligibility criteria for B.Sc. Nursing (Basic) is given below.

  • The student should have qualified for his/her class 12th examination with PCB (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) subjects.
  • The minimum marks in class 12th should be 50%.
  • The student should be medically fit to pursue this course.

For B.Sc. Nursing (Post-basic):

  • Candidate should have passed his/her 10+2 exam with PCB subjects.
  • He/she should have a certificate in GNM (General Nursing Midwifery).
  • He/she should be registered as RNRM (Registered Nurse Registered Midwife) from the States Nurses Registration Council.
  • The candidate should also submit proof of his/her training by the Indian Nursing Council or equivalent in any of the following fields.
