The Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Madhya Pradesh, has put out some important updates for MP State Combined NEET UG Counselling 2026–27. Through two separate notices dated September 21, 2026, DME has extended the Round 2 resignation window for admitted candidates and released the tentative schedule for the Mop-Up round for MBBS and BDS. A third update, dated September 24, 2026, also reopens the willingness-for-upgradation link for eligible candidates.

Round 2 resignation extended: new dates and process

According to the official DME notice titled “Notice Regarding Extension of Resignation (Second Round),” candidates who’ve already taken admission in Round 2 and now want to resign can do so between 22 September 2026 and 1 October 2026 (up to 6:00 PM). DME has said this extension was granted keeping in mind the new counselling schedule announced by MCC.

It’s worth noting that resignation here isn’t a simple online self-withdrawal. If you want to resign, you’ll need to personally visit your allotted college, where the online resignation process is then completed on your behalf. Given the time needed for travel, verification, and processing at the college level, it’s best not to leave this for the very last day.

Before you resign, read this: penalty and eligibility warning

The same resignation notice comes with two conditions that are worth thinking through carefully before you make a decision:

  • Financial penalty: ₹2,00,000 for non-NRI candidates, and ₹10,00,000 for NRI candidates.
  • Bigger consequence: if you resign under this notice, you won’t be eligible for any further rounds of State UG counselling.

In other words, don’t assume you can resign from your Round 2 seat and then simply try your luck in the Mop-Up round for something better. The notice is clear that resignation, in this case, also means losing eligibility for the state rounds that follow.

MP NEET UG 2026 Mop-Up round: the tentative schedule (MBBS/BDS)

In its second notice, also dated September 21, DME released a tentative Mop-Up schedule. Here are the key dates:

  • Fresh registration: 28 September to 2 October 2026 (till 11:59 PM)
  • Revised state merit list/eligible candidates list: 3 October 2026
  •  Vacancy publication: 3 October 2026
  • Fresh choice filling and choice locking: 4 to 7 October 2026 (till 11:59 PM)
  • Mop-Up allotment result: 10 October 2026
  • Reporting/admission at allotted college: 11 to 14 October 2026 (till 6:00 PM)

If you’re taking part in the Mop-Up round, you’ll need to fill your choices fresh during the notified window — choices from earlier rounds don’t automatically carry forward. That said, if you’re already registered from an earlier round, you generally don’t need to register again; the “fresh registration” step is really meant for eligible candidates who weren’t registered before, subject to the rules on the portal.

One more thing to keep in mind: once the Mop-Up round begins, resigning from a seat may attract a seat-leaving bond under Rule 15(1), though the notice doesn’t mention a specific amount.

Upgradation willingness link reopened — a separate matter from resignation

A separate notice dated September 24, 2026, has reopened the willingness-for-upgradation link for a limited period, reportedly available from 24 September to 1 October 2026, up to 4:00 PM. It’s important not to confuse this with resignation — upgradation is about competing for a better seat while keeping the one you have, whereas resignation means giving up your seat entirely, which can affect your future eligibility.

It’s a good idea to follow only the official updates on the DME MP counselling portal, and to read each notice carefully before deciding on your next step.
