Founded in 2004, the institution forms an integral part of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and is administered by the Mata Amritanandamayi Math Trust. Its approach brings classical Ayurvedic learning together with contemporary medical subjects, hospital-based training and research.

This guide covers the college’s courses, admission process and facilities. The seat and fee figures presented below pertain to the 2024–25 academic year and ought not to be regarded as assured for the current session.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham holds a publicly declared NAAC A++ accreditation grade. This is a university-level grade, not a separate accreditation grade for the School of Ayurveda.

Courses and academic environment

The school’s principal undergraduate programme is the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS). The course generally takes 5.5 years to complete: 4.5 years of academic study followed by a compulsory one-year internship. Students study Ayurvedic principles alongside subjects such as anatomy, physiology, disease studies, pharmacology and Panchakarma, with clinical learning forming an important part of their training.

NCISM’s 2024–25 list records 60 BAMS seats, with conditional permission noted. The number of permitted seats, the seats available in a particular counselling round and the number of students ultimately enrolled may differ.

The 2024–25 records also show 46 postgraduate seats across 11 specialities: Ayurveda Samhita, Sanskrit and Siddhanta; Dravyaguna Vigyana; Rasa Shastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana; Prasuti and Stri Roga; Panchakarma; Kayachikitsa; Shalakya Tantra; Shalya Tantra; Swasthavritta; Roga Nidan Evam Vikriti Vigyana; and Kaumarbhritya–Balaroga. Two of these specialities were newly listed that year, with four seats each. PG permissions and seat numbers should be checked again for the relevant admission year.

Admission process

For BAMS admission in 2024–25, applicants needed to qualify NEET-UG and take part in counselling through the Ayush Admissions Central Counseling Committee (AACCC). The college’s notice stated that all seat allocation was through AACCC, under the Deemed University category.

Applicants must also meet the applicable 10+2 subject, minimum-mark and age requirements. These conditions can change, so consult the rules for the year you are applying. The college’s 2024–25 admission information also referred to AIAPGET for postgraduate admissions.

Commonly requested documents include the counselling allotment letter, entrance examination scorecard, Class 10 and 12 certificates, transfer and migration certificates, medical fitness certificate and identity proof. Refer to the official admission checklist for the final requirements.

Fees for 2024–25

The college’s 2024–25 BAMS fee document lists:

  • Annual course fee: ₹3,92,850

  • Annual hostel fee: ₹75,600

  • Total shown in the document: ₹4,68,450

There is a fee discrepancy to clarify: a separate counselling page refers to a demand draft of ₹4,25,100. These figures may cover different charges or reflect different page updates. Before paying, request a written, itemised fee statement covering tuition, hostel, mess, deposits and other applicable charges. The figures above are historical and do not establish the total cost of the full course.

Hospital and clinical learning

The attached Ayurveda Hospital and Research Centre is reported to have 250 beds, along with OPD and inpatient services, an operation theatre, laboratory and X-ray facilities. Its departments include Kayachikitsa, Panchakarma, Shalya Tantra, Shalakya Tantra, Prasuti and Stri Roga, Kaumarbhritya–Bal Roga, Swasthavritta and Yoga, Agada Tantra, and casualty services.

The college’s patient-statistics portal reports 70,952 OPD visits, 3,282 in-patients and 40,180 occupied bed-days for calendar year 2024. OPD visits should not be read as a count of unique patients. These figures indicate hospital activity, but they do not, on their own, show how much supervised patient contact each student receives. Ask about clinical postings, case records and internship rotations before making a decision.

Campus, herbal garden and research

The college reports a campus of approximately 25 acres, with a shared built-up area of around 2,00,000 square feet for the college and hospital. Its five-acre herbal garden is said to contain about 500 medicinal plant species, offering a useful learning resource for subjects such as Dravyaguna Vigyana.

The school also refers to the Amrita Centre for Advanced Research in Ayurveda (ĀCĀRA) and lists research publications through its research portal. These may interest students considering postgraduate study or research after BAMS.

What to check before applying

Before accepting a seat, applicants should:

  • Confirm the current NCISM permission and AACCC seat matrix for their course.

  • Obtain the latest written fee breakup and check hostel availability and mess costs.

  • Ask how clinical postings are supervised and how internship rotations are organised.

  • Follow only official counselling instructions; avoid relying on agents’ promises of guaranteed admission.
