In the high-stakes NEET counselling circus, where seats vanish faster than monsoon clouds, West Bengal’s Directorate of Medical Education has just dropped a plot twist. On 22 October 2026, an Urgent Debarring Notice (Memo DME/Spl.Corresp/2026/118) barred specific All India Quota candidates from the state’s Online Stray Vacancy Round provisional allotment list. If you’re a NEET UG 2026 aspirant still in the hunt, grab your chai and read on – this one’s important, though we’ll keep it light because counselling without a smile is like kolkata biryani without potatoes.
The Official Notice in Plain English
Issued by the Director of Medical Education and WBMCC Chairman, the notice applies only to West Bengal’s Online Stray Vacancy Round for Medical and Dental seats. It does not affect future NEET attempts or other states. Two categories of candidates have been kept out of the provisional list:
Those already admitted in AIQ counselling up to Round 3.
Those allotted a seat in the AIQ Stray Vacancy Round (joining not even required).
Simply registering for MCC counselling does not automatically debar anyone. Candidates who neither took AIQ admission by Round 3 nor received an AIQ stray allotment remain potentially eligible, subject to WBMCC’s other rules and official lists.
Admitted vs Allotted – The Fine Print That Matters
The notice uses two different words on purpose. For Round 3 it says “admitted” (you actually joined). For AIQ Stray it says “allotted” (mere seat allocation is enough). Writing that every Round 3 allottee is out would be inaccurate. Always match your actual MCC status with WBMCC’s official candidate list rather than rumours.
Why Did WBMCC Do This?
The practical goal is simple: stop double-dipping. Candidates already holding an AIQ seat should not grab another in the state stray round and create unnecessary vacancies. A similar clean-up happened on 12 October for Round 3 after MCC directions; one seat at Midnapore Medical College even became vacant. This 22 October notice is part of the same seat-status scrutiny, not a blanket ban on all AIQ participants.
Current Status as of 25 October 2026
The stray round result is already published on the WBMCC website. Registration closed on 16 October, choice filling on 17-18 October, and allotment on 23 October. Reporting windows were 23 October (afternoon), 24 October and 26 October. The admission server was extended till 24 October 8 PM. If you have an allotment letter, follow the latest WBMCC instructions immediately.
