The New “Freeze and Float” System: What Has Changed?
This year, MCC has made seat upgradation more flexible. After a seat is allotted, candidates must now clearly choose one of two options:
• Freeze (no upgradation): If you are happy with your seat, choose “Freeze”. You then have to visit the allotted institute in person, submit your documents, pay the fees and confirm your admission.
• Float (looking for upgradation): If you want a better seat in the next round, choose “Float”. The big relief here is that Float candidates do not have to visit the college in person. The allotted institute's committee will verify their documents online.
Online Document Verification and NRI Conversion
To save doctors from travelling, MCC has made document verification digital for candidates who want upgradation.
• Checking for problems: The institute's Document Verification Committee will check online for blurred, missing or incorrect certificates. If it finds an issue, you will get a window to re-upload or correct the document.
• NRI candidates: Indian students who want to convert to the NRI category must now upload their supporting documents online. An MCC scrutiny committee will verify them virtually before provisionally allowing the category change.
Counselling Fees
Keep these amounts ready at the time of registration (registration fee + refundable security deposit):
- AIQ Unreserved (General / EWS): ₹1,000 + ₹25,000 = ₹26,000
- AIQ Reserved (SC / ST / OBC / PwD): ₹500 + ₹10,000 = ₹10,500
- Deemed Universities (all categories): ₹5,000 + ₹2,00,000 = ₹2,05,000
Later Rounds
Counselling will run in four phases and will finish by the end of the year. After Round 1, the schedule is:
- Round 2: 6 November to 23 November 2026
- Round 3: 26 November to 12 December 2026
- Stray Vacancy Round: 16 December to 31 December 2026
- The academic session starts on 20 November 2026.
