The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has added 659 new seats for NEET UG Counselling 2026 Round 2 across MBBS, BDS and B.Sc Nursing, as per an official document issued on its portal. The update comes alongside the ongoing Round 2 process, for which reporting to allotted colleges is scheduled from 12 to 18 September, followed by MCC verification of joined candidates on 19 September.

Course-wise break-up of newly added seats

As per the official seat-addition list, the 659 seats are distributed as follows:

  •  MBBS: 395 seats
  •  BDS: 125 seats
  •  B.Sc Nursing: 139 seats
  • Total: 659 seats

State and institute highlights

A large part of the addition is concentrated in a few locations and institute types:

Government/State colleges under All India Quota (AIQ): A limited number of seats have been added in AIQ in states such as Arunachal Pradesh (Tomo Riba Institute, 15 MBBS seats), Assam (Bongaigaon Medical College, 15 MBBS seats) and Uttar Pradesh (Autonomous State Medical College, Lakhimpur Kheri, 15 MBBS seats).

Dental seats have also been listed, including Government Dental College & Hospital, Ahmedabad (18 BDS seats) and Government Dental College, Thrissur (7 BDS seats).

Deemed Universities dominate the list: Out of 659, about 450 seats (around 68%) are from Deemed Universities, largely in Self-Financed Merit (and a smaller NRI component). Major additions include Deemed institutions in Tamil Nadu (total 350 seats) across MBBS and BDS programmes, Puducherry (Aarupadai Veedu Medical College, 50 MBBS seats) and Uttarakhand (Graphic Era Institute of Medical Sciences, 50 MBBS seats, including NRI and Self-Financed Merit seats).

This pattern is significant for candidates because Self-Financed/NRI seats generally involve higher tuition fees and typically do not follow the same reservation structure as government AIQ seats.

B.Sc Nursing (Female-only) seats are entirely from Delhi: All 139 B.Sc Nursing seats are from two institutions—Florence Nightingale College of Nursing (77) and LHMC College of Nursing (62)—with quota distribution including All India and Delhi NCR-linked quotas.

What candidates should do

Candidates should check the MCC website (mcc.nic.in) for updated documents, including newly added seats and vacancy lists. MCC has also published other Round 2-related updates such as clear/virtual vacancy lists and a provisional NRI conversion list (135 candidates) for document scrutiny-based status changes. Candidates must follow institute-specific reporting instructions and complete joining within the notified deadline.
