The Directorate General of Medical Education and Training (DGME), Uttar Pradesh, has restarted Round 1 of UP NEET UG 2026 counselling for MBBS and BDS admissions. This follows an order from the Allahabad High Court (Lucknow Bench), dated 16 September 2026.

As per the official notice titled "Rescheduled Time Table for the First Round of Online Counselling under UP NEET UG-2026" (issued on 18 September 2026), the earlier Round 1 allotment declared on 7 September 2026 is no longer valid. Candidates now need to fill and lock their choices again under the fresh Round 1 timeline.

Corrected schedule for Round 1 (Rescheduled)

According to the rescheduled timetable on the UP-NEET counselling portal, here are the updated Round 1 dates:

  • Fresh choice filling and locking: 18 September 2026 (5:00 PM) to 21 September 2026 (5:00 PM)
  • Round 1 seat allotment result: 22 September 2026
  • Allotment letter download and admission: 23 September to 26 September 2026

This is worth clarifying because the official notice specifically states 22 September 2026 as the seat-allotment result date — not a "21/22 September" window.

Why was Round 1 conducted again?

This disruption is connected to a legal dispute over the reservation arrangement for State Quota MBBS seats in four government medical colleges:

  • Government Medical College, Ambedkar Nagar
  • Government Medical College, Kannauj
  • Government Medical College, Jalaun
  • Government Medical College, Saharanpur

Reports say the High Court stayed a reservation pattern that reportedly went up to around 91% in these four colleges, while allowing counselling to continue in other government medical colleges using their existing reservation pattern (subject to the final outcome of the case). DGME's rescheduling has been issued in line with the court's direction and related government instructions.

What happens to candidates who were allotted seats on September 7?

The most important thing for students to know is that the Round 1 allotment from 7 September 2026 is no longer valid after this reconduct. This means candidates who were earlier allotted a seat cannot assume they will automatically keep the same college or seat.

Even candidates who had already reported or completed part of their admission after the September 7 allotment should treat the process as restarted and take part again in the new choice filling and locking window.

The official rescheduled notice, as reported publicly, does not clearly explain a refund timeline for fees already paid at colleges. Candidates should follow instructions from their institutions and wait for further clarification from DGME rather than assuming anything on their own.

Revised merit list and seat matrix released

Along with the new timetable, DGME has also uploaded a revised Round 1 state merit list and a tentative revised Round 1 seat matrix. Since the seat matrix is marked "tentative revised," candidates should check the updated category-wise and college-wise seat availability before locking their choices.

Round 2 postponed

On top of this, DGME has issued a separate notice postponing UP NEET UG 2026 Round 2 counselling until further orders. Candidates should ignore any previously announced Round 2 dates and focus first on completing the active Round 1 steps.

  • Check the tentative revised seat matrix
  • Fill and lock your choices before 21 September (5 PM)
  • Watch for the fresh allotment result on 22 September
