The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has issued a new notice for NEET UG Counselling 2026. It asks all State Counselling Authorities to find the candidates who have already joined a seat under the All India Quota (AIQ) up to Round 3. These candidates will be removed from the list used for state seat allotment, so that they do not get another seat through the State Quota.
The notice was issued on 10 October 2026 as Notice No. 25 (reference number U-11011/07/2026-MEC). It came a day after MCC Round 3 reporting ended on 9 October 2026.
What Has MCC Asked States to Do?
Before processing seats in state counselling, states have to download the list of joined AIQ candidates from MCC's data-sharing portal.
The main instructions are:
- States must check which candidates have joined AIQ seats up to Round 3.
- These candidates must be filtered out before state seat processing begins.
- The aim is to make sure that one candidate does not hold or get two seats.
- The direction is linked to Supreme Court orders on counselling transparency and seat blocking.
In simple words: if a candidate has already taken admission and joined an AIQ seat through MCC counselling, the state counselling authority must make sure the same candidate is not given another seat in state counselling.
Why Does This Notice Matter?
NEET UG counselling runs through different channels. MCC handles AIQ and other central counselling seats, while state authorities conduct counselling for state quota seats.
Some candidates take part in both MCC counselling and state counselling. If a candidate joins an AIQ seat but stays active in state counselling, it can cause confusion. It can also block a seat that another eligible candidate could have got.
To avoid this, MCC wants states to use the joined-candidate data before they finalise their allotments.
What Does "Weeding Out" Mean?
In this notice, "weeding out" does not mean cancelling anyone's NEET result or removing them from the whole admission process. It only means taking the candidates who have already joined AIQ seats off the list that is considered for state seat allotment.
So the step is only about seat processing and stopping duplicate allotments.
Who May Be Affected?
The notice may affect:
- Candidates who joined an AIQ seat in Round 1, Round 2 or Round 3.
- Candidates waiting for a state counselling allotment, as the seat list may become clearer after this filtering.
- State counselling authorities, who now have to verify joined-candidate data before allotment.
However, if you only registered for AIQ counselling and did not join any seat, do not assume you will be disqualified just because of this notice. Your eligibility will depend on MCC rules and the rules of your state counselling.
