Semey Medical University, which includes its hospital and branches in Pavlodar and Ust Kamenogorsk, is a prominent medical institution in Kazakhstan. Semey State Medical University, established in 1952 as Semipalatinsk State Medical Institute, is considered one of the finest universities in Kazakhstan. It received its current name, Semey State Medical University, from the Health Services Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan more than four decades later. The university began with its first batch of students in the medical faculty in 1953 and has since added other faculties such as pediatrics in 1963, stomatology in 1991, and Medico-prophylactically, pharmaceutical, and general medicine faculties in 2003.
SSMU also offers post-diploma education in Pavlodar city, with approximately 1,000
doctors pursuing their education here each year. Presently, over 3,500 students are enrolled in the university's General Medicine, Pediatrics, Stomatology, Pharmaceuticals, and Medical-prophylactic faculties. The university employs over 450 teachers, including 35 Doctors of Sciences, one academician, 168 PhDs, three Corresponding members of the AMS RK, and four corresponding members of the ANS RK.
